CRIBE Lab Observes Urban Heat Mitigation Lecture & Insights From Prof. Mat Santamouris at Tsinghua SIGS

We had a rewarding experience attending the lecture delivered by Prof. Mat Santamouris hosted by the Institute of Future Human Habitats, Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School.  

Morning Public Lecture on Urban Overheating Solutions

In the morning, Prof. Santamouris delivered an inspiring talk on advanced heat mitigation technologies and their role in addressing urban overheating. His insights into urban climate adaptation, cool materials, and building‑scale mitigation strategies provided valuable perspectives for our ongoing research on sustainable built environments.

Afternoon Workshop and Cross‑Topic Discussion

In the afternoon workshop, we joined an engaging and thoughtful exchange on topics highly relevant to early‑career scholars: academic career development, the supervisor–postgraduate relationship, the evolving role of AI in building science research and its broader societal implications, global economic and development inequalities, and urban sustainable development pathways. The discussion was both intellectually stimulating and practically grounded. Particularly appreciated were his three simple yet profound tips:

1. Treat research as a hobby rather than merely a job.
2. Maintain a lifelong learning mindset.
3. Always remain humble.

We are grateful for this valuable opportunity to listen to Prof. Santamouris’s sharing and take away plenty of inspiring takeaways from the conversations.
